One of the top impact freshmen in the state of North Carolina last year was 2029 Tre Roper from Knightdale High School. Last season, he finished averaging 14 points and 7.6 rebounds, playing in 26 games throughout the season. Knowing about Roper before his freshman season, we were excited to see what he could provide but also weren’t surprised. Fast forward to this past weekend, Roper was a primary target for many scouts to see his development, and one could see he has been adding more to his game.
Roper continues to bring excellent physicality as a prospect at 6’3, battling through defenders well, finishing and embracing contact, scoring at the rim well, but also being able to step out and show more of his perimeter game, and finding ways to impact the game in various other ways with his size. Our very own Jeff Bendel wrote this after the event:
“He’s such an overpowering force with the IQ, frame, skillset, and overall physicality to dominate opponents. Roper defended virtually every possible type of opponent, rebounded way bigger than his size, and showcased a very polished, refined offensive game. He’s comfortable dictating the action as a primary creator, getting others involved, and scoring in various ways. Roper gets downhill with ease, bullies opponents en route to the rim, and finishes with both power and finesse. His tight handle and strong body make him exceptionally difficult for defenders to contain. Add in his motor, leadership by example, and ability to do the little things, and it’s easy to see why he’s among the top players in his class.”
Roper continues to show why he is one of the top young prospects in North Carolina. With his physicality, production, and steadily expanding skill set, he looks poised to take another big step forward and remain a major name to watch in the 2029 class.
