The Class of 2029 is already creating a lot of early buzz, as Phenom Hoops has highlighted plenty of names you will be hearing on a national level. A player that we talked about last season was 2029 6’6 Austin Acy, who clearly showcased a ton of talent, understanding, upside, and overall skill set early on.
Writing about Acy back in January, Patrick O’Brien had this to say about his game:
“Watching the 6’5 freshman in action recently, he showed a lot of flashes that will make him an intriguing prospect early on and down the road, as he finished with 40 points in the game we viewed recently. Along with his family ties and background, Acy showed potential with his length, scoring ability, and upside with his game. Standing at 6’6 already, Acy trends early as a wing prospect with his ability to play along the perimeter, score off the ball, knock down shots from outside, and his ability to create/make plays off the bounce. In the game, he was able to flourish in his ability to get to the line, creating off the bounce, attacking in transition, and using his athleticism to get to the rim. A reliable scorer on the court around the basket, creating for himself, and showing upside with stretching his game, Acy can be a versatile offensive weapon. That doesn’t mention the flashes he shows on the defensive side, using his length well and to his advantage.”
It seems that Acy has only continued to excel and prove why he is a national prospect, coming in as a Top 10 prospect recently with Rivals. That is after an impressive five-game representation at Peach Jam in which he averaged 23.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game with Drive Nation, shooting 69 percent from the floor and 50 percent from behind the arc.
Acy is comfortable operating along the perimeter, consistently scoring both on and off the ball, and showing the ability to knock down perimeter shots while also creating offense off the bounce. He excels at attacking downhill, getting to the free-throw line, and using his athleticism to finish through traffic or in transition. Around the basket, he displays touch and confidence as a scorer, while his continued development as a perimeter shooter gives him the potential to become an even bigger weapon as a multi-level scorer. He also understands how to impact the game in other ways with his length, making his presence felt on the glass as well. With his size, skill set, and upside, Acy has all the tools to develop into a dynamic and versatile weapon on the wing.
And we believe his recruitment is going to take off in a big way, with high-major programs heading his way sooner rather than later.
