So many people already know about the talent in the Class of 2027 and 2028, which is why we are talking early about prospects in the Class of 2029 that you will be hearing more about in the coming years. Though they are just starting their story, players are already garnering early recognition from national outlets and are showing why they have a chance to be something special.
2029 6’11 Hermann Kone is a young prospect that shows flashes of skillset but also has a ton of excitement surrounding his potential. Playing for Compton Magic 15u, a program that has produced some big-time talent over the years, there is a lot to like about Kone and what he ultimately could be as a long, fluid big. We had an opportunity recently to review some film and watch Kone in action on the court for Compton, and it is easy to see the promise as he moves extremely well, shows promise as a big that can handle, and is comfortable in scoring inside and creating as well as stretching the floor.
Kone is a long, agile big that runs the floor well from rim to rim, being active defensively in the paint and shining at times with his length, while also using his 6’11 frame to get to the rim. He is one that can be a double-double presence, but also surprised me with his comfort in making plays off the bounce as well as stretching the court with his perimeter shot. Kone can step out and create space for his shot, attack well on drives, and create a tough matchup for opponents for how well he moves on the court.
From what we saw, Kone has the factors in his game that makes him a high-major prospect in the coming years, especially with what he shows now but what he could ultimately be with his feel, size, and impact on both sides of the court. But I wouldn’t waste time, as I would start learning his name today.
