The Phenom Team Camp helped us get a better viewing of not only teams but players that could be in for a breakout season. Holly Springs, who is coming of a 9-18 season last year, is hoping to turn it around this season and a player to watch in a big way is 2028 6’2 JP Portland.
Coming off a season in which he averaged 9.8 points per game, Portland has a chance to be a breakout contender in North Carolina as he looks to shine as one of the clear leaders for the Golden Hawks. And he may have given us a preview on the weekend, proving to be a lethal weapon when he has his shot going. Portland will be talked about as one of the top shooters in the state, as he displays a terrific blend of confidence and range in his ability to knock down shots from outside. He does a great job in playing off the ball and finding the open spots, but also can get to his spots off the bounce with a quick release; and once he sees his shot fall, his confidence only continues to grow and he can change the game.
Portland looks poised to be a major piece for Holly Springs this season and a player whose stock could continue to rise with more opportunities. His shot-making ability, confidence, and scoring upside give the Golden Hawks a dangerous weapon on the perimeter, and if he continues to build off performances like this, he has a real chance to make a name for himself across North Carolina.
