Player: Jermier Nelson
Class: 2028
School: Fort Mill (SC)

The Class of 2028 down in South Carolina is shaping up nicely early on, and a guard that we have talked about a lot and continue to have our eyes on is 2028 Jermier Nelson from Fort Mill High School.

We had him recently this high school season at our event, where our scout Patrick O’Brien had this to say after an impressive showing:

“Aggressive, attacking guard who consistently puts pressure on the defense. Drives well, finishes through defenders, and shows confidence in his mid-range pull-up game. A young prospect college programs should continue to track closely.”

He has been huge this season for his team, averaging an impressive 20.7 ppg, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game as a sophomore.  His play has captured the eyes of college coaches early on, as he earned his first Division I offer this week. See what he had to say about it all and more about his development/ game.

Game Development This Season:

“I feel my IQ has grown, and I’ve become a better leader. This year, I’ve stepped into a bigger role as one of the leaders and as the PG, and I felt I had to mature more and lead the team. I think I did a pretty good job at it.”

Game Breakdown:

“I’m a player that can impact winning in every aspect, even the stuff that doesn’t show up on the stat sheet. I can handle the ball really well under pressure and embrace adversity when it hits. My game is very efficient. I don’t force shots and make the right play. I shot 55% from the field this last season, so I feel that shows. I’m really good at getting downhill and making the right decisions to either finish at the rim or draw the defense and kick out or pull up for the mid-range.  I’m a point guard who can read defense and make the right play accordingly. I’m a good on-ball defender and can work on my off-ball defending, and I feel I’m vocal on both sides of the floor, but can do a much better job at it.”

Thoughts on First D1 offer from East Carolina:

“It was truly a blessing! It made me realize that all the work I’ve been putting in isn’t going unnoticed. In a way, I felt it made me want to work harder than I already was. In my mind, I was thinking I got my first one, that’s great, but at the same time, let’s not get stagnant and stop working, let’s go even harder and see what blessings come at me next.”

In speaking more with Nelson, he has hopes of making a visit to Greenville down the road when the time comes, and as far as other schools reaching out, Wofford has been showing a little interest his way early on.
