Player: Khalil Luster
Class: 2028
Height: 6’8
School: Red Bay HS

It is funny how things work these days… just over a week ago, Phenom Hoops introduced and talked about a rising big man down in Alabama in 2028 6’8 Khalil Luster, who had a HUGE freshman season at Red Bay HS. It didn’t take long, as a week later, he earned his first D1 offer from Alabama A&M.

Last week, we had this to say about Luster’s game and how impactful he was as a freshman:

“Luster should be on many radars around the area, and with his combination of size, feel, and impact in a variety of areas, the rising sophomore should have the attention of college programs. At 6’8, Luster shows a strong feel in impacting the game down low, attacking the glass, and being skilled for his size. He is comfortable in operating from multiple levels, comfortably stretching the floor as a big man, creating and making plays off the bounce, and showing touch around the basket. That doesn’t mention his feel on the glass and impact on the glass, being a true force on the court.”

We caught up with Luster shortly after that again to congratulate him on his first D1 offer and to learn more about his game in his words, his mindset heading into a big sophomore year, and to talk a little bit about his recruitment early on. Check out what he had to say.

Game Description:

“My game is built around being versatile. I can score inside and out, defend multiple positions, and make plays for my teammates. Heading into next season, my focus is sharpening my ball handling, getting stronger, and becoming an even better leader on the floor.”

Mindset for Upcoming Sophomore Season at Red Bay:

“My mindset is just to stay hungry and not get comfortable. Freshman year was good, but I know I’ve got a lot more to prove. I want to keep getting stronger, keep working on my game, and show coaches that I’m improving every time I step on the court.”

Receiving First Offer from Alabama A&M:

“It feels amazing, honestly. To know that the work I’ve been putting in is starting to show means a lot. I’m grateful for the opportunity, but I also see it as motivation to keep grinding because I know this is just the first step.”

Dream School?:

“Yeah, my dream school has always been Kansas. I grew up watching the Jayhawks, and just seeing how big their program is and all the winning they do, that’s always been a school I’d love to play for.”
