It is never too early to look at prospects in the Class of 2028 around the country, and we have our eyes on a rising talent in Texas that you will be hearing about a lot more in the coming years. 2028 6’5 Trey Edwards has been making a statement early on to start the high school season, proving that he could be one of the best prospects in the state. He just earned an offer from Oklahoma State, adding to an already strong list and more interests have been coming. We spoke to Edwards about his game and the start of the season, along with learning early about his recruitment.
Phenom: How has everything been so far early this season and with your game? What have you been focusing and preparing for this upcoming season?
Edwards: Things have been great so far. This year, my main focus are competing for a state title with my teammates and learning the high school system from my coaches.
Phenom: How would you best describe your game on the court and how you like to operate/provide your team?
Edwards: A combo guard who can play the point or play shooting guard. Shooting is my main strength but I’m also good at playmaking and getting to the rim. Love breaking down the defense to set up my teammates.
Phenom: Thoughts on your most recent offer from Oklahoma State?
Edwards: Very excited about the Oklahoma State offer because it’s a Power 5 school and I really like Coach Lutz and Coach Mike. My cousin Bryce Thompson is a senior guard there as well.
Phenom: What is it like to get that offer and what has the staff been saying your way?
Edwards: Great feeling but it’s still a long road ahead and I still have to remain humble and hungry.
Phenom: What other offers do you currently hold?
Edwards: Arkansas Pine-Bluff, SEMO, McNeese State, UT-Arlington, Morehead State, Mississippi State, North Texas, SIU Carbondale, and Saint Louis.
Phenom: Though early, what other schools have been showing strong interest early on?
Edwards: Missouri, Kentucky, SMU, Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Baylor, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M Corpus-Christi, Sam Houston State, Tulsa, and UTSA.
Phenom: Any schools you would like to visit in the future?
Edwards: Later down the road, I want to visit Kentucky.
