Starting to become a more frequent name to watch out for, 2027 6’4 Karon Watlington of Burlington Christian and CP3 EYBL 2027 is continuing to showcase more of his game. Watlington has had strong early seasons. As his game continues to mature, he is getting bigger and developing as a prospect, and he continues to attract the eyes of programs around the area.
Patrick O’Brien with Phenom Hoops was able to catch up with the rising prospect to learn about his thoughts on this past season, his focus on summer ball, and what schools have been saying his way. Check out what he had to say in our 1-on-1.
Phenom: How would you reflect overall on this past high school season?
Watlington: I think I was able to achieve my goals and get better as a player. I was able to score the ball more and have more space and freedom this season with whom we lost last year. Learning a new system, I had to pick it up a little bit for my team overall.
Phenom: What was it like to showcase more of your offensive game and that leadership role?
Watlington: It was great. I learned how to not get down when I missed a shot, I had to pick up everybody up at times. It was fun to learn how to mature as a player.
Phenom: What areas are you focusing on with your game?
Watlington: I want to be more athletic, more poised, and more consistent with my overall shot.
Phenom: How would you best describe your game?
Watlington: I just like to compete and play hard.
Phenom: Recruiting-wise, you hold three offers early on from High Point, Samford, and Old Dominion. What was it like to get that first D1 offer?
Watlington: It was great getting that first offer. It was my first offer and I’m glad they gave me the opportunity. They just talked about how they run the program and that they are one of the best in the area. I have been able to check out High Point during a game. What stood out to me is that they play great team basketball, great team defense, and I love their coach.
Phenom: Have you been able to talk to Samford or Old Dominion?
Watlington: I haven’t been able to talk to them yet. But both of those programs play great basketball, have a great culture, and play as a team. I do have plans to visit those schools sometime in the future.
