The spring and summer are starting to heat up for players around the country, as the first early sessions have begun for some of the big circuits, including the EYBL. A player starting to rise up the ranks and be on more radars for national programs, 2027 6’8 Andrew Kretkowski has been catching the attention of many.
He has started the season in a big way, adding more to his game and elevating his play for Team Final. But he is looking to make an even bigger statement, showcasing more of his game on the big stage. Kretkowski earned another big offer from Northwestern, but several other schools are showing interest in him, as he spoke to Phenom Hoops about all the latest.
Phenom: Wanted to first ask you how the summer has started off for you in your eyes? What has been your focus?
Kretkowski: Starting the EYBL Circuit, my main focus is adjusting to that fast style of play. It is the closest thing to college basketball, with playing against the best players in the country. I have really been working on my handles and shooting the ball efficiently.
Phenom: How has your game been growing?
Kretkowski: For me, I’ve opened up my mid-range and mid-postgame. I’ve always been talented in transition and getting downhill, but getting to my spots in the halfcourt has been a big improvement in my opinion.
Phenom: How has recruitment been going overall in your eyes?
Kretkowski: It is really starting to pick up as the LIVE periods approach. Tons of coaches have been reaching out, saying they will be out to watch me, just looking to play well and be myself.
Phenom: Just received an offer from Northwestern. What kind of relationship have you built with them, and your thoughts on the program?
Kretkowski: I really love that the school offers a high academic university with a great culture and group of kids and coaches. Also, playing in the Big Ten against the best teams in the country. I’ve mainly been talking to Coach McIntosh, which has been great to pick the mind of someone who has played there and now coaches.
Phenom: Any plans of visiting?
Kretkowski: Yeah, looking to take an official towards the end of summer.
Phenom: Who else has been staying strong with you these days?
Kretkowski: I’ve been hearing from a bunch of different schools, including watching film and saying they will be coming out to watch, including schools like VCU, Stanford, Boston College, Kansas State, Saint Joseph’s, and more.
Phenom: What offers do you currently hold?
Kretkowski: Bryant, Arizona State, Florida State, Rutgers, Penn State, Old Dominion, and now Northwestern.
Phenom: Any plans to visit any other schools?
Kretkowski: For now, I haven’t put much thought into that. More focused on the upcoming EYBL sessions.
