Here in North Carolina, the Class of 2027 has become very interesting with players rising towards the top with their play this summer. One player that has been capturing the eyes of many has been 2027 6’4 Geren Holmes, as he has been consistent throughout the months, and it is paying off with his recruitment taking off. Recently, we wrote an article about Holmes asking if he looks like a Top 10 prospect in North Carolina? Here is what we had to say:
“Holmes is skilled, athletic, and comfortable with or without the ball in his hands. He possesses great positional size with a strong body and the physicality to overwhelm opponents on both ends of the floor. Holmes’ foundation has always been centered around his elite perimeter shooting; however, it’s easy to see the strides he’s actively making as a creator for himself and others. In his expanded role for the Spartans, Holmes has taken on more initiation and playmaking duties. He’s still very reliable in spot-up situations or cutting without the ball, but can alter his approach as needed. Holmes is a quality defender with the tools to truly shut down opponents. Add in his solid rebounding presence, and it’s easy to see everything he brings to this group.”
Phenom Hoops caught up recently with Holmes about the latest, discussing more about his breakout summer and some big offers coming in. Check out our latest 1-on-1 with him below.
Phenom: How have you grown as a player this summer?
Holmes: The ways I have grown as a player are my defense and ball handling. I’ve really taken pride in my defense, as I don’t want to get scored upon by anyone. I’m also not scared to guard the best player on the team.
Phenom: How have you been able to grow and develop your game over the last year?
Holmes: I’ve been constantly in the gym working to be the best player I can be.
Phenom: Received some big offers as of late, including Ohio State and Mississippi State. Thoughts on the latest?
Holmes: Ohio State is a big one for me. Coming from a kid who grew up in Ohio, I’ve been watching them my whole life. I feel like people are starting to finally realize that I’m a Power 5 player, and a guy who should be ranked: I’m coming for it all.
Phenom: What did that offer mean to you, and is Ohio State a dream school of yours?
Holmes: It means a lot. I really appreciate them believing in me. I had a couple of schools on my dream list, and they were one of them, but we are still not finished.
Phenom: What are your thoughts on the offer from Mississippi State?
Holmes: I appreciate it. Glad they took a chance on me. They really like my game and are ready to get to work. Academically, they are a good school as well.
Phenom: What other schools have been expressing interest your way?
Holmes: Michigan, Rutgers, and VCU are some of them.
Phenom: You mentioned dream schools above. What other schools would make your list?
Holmes: I’ve always wanted to go to Gonzaga, but playing in North Carolina, I would really want Duke and North Carolina.
Phenom: Which schools have been recruiting you hard, would you sa,y early on?
Holmes: Ohio State has shown a lot and that they are serious about me.
