The high school season is over and that just means changes are about to occur. A player that came to North Carolina from Iceland has now announced that he will be on the move once again, heading to the national program of DME.

2026 6’9 Heimir Helgason, who played at The Asheville School this past season, will be suiting up for DME Academy next year, giving this team one of the premier prospects from North Carolina and one that has been rising up the ranks. His recruitment continues to rise as well, earning offers from UCF, Nebraska, and others as of late, as he brings an intriguing game along with a ton of potential. We have covered Helgason for some time now, and here is what DME will be getting with him.

What Has Been Said About his Game:

“When you watch his game, his blend of potential and overall skillset is quite impressive. With his size at 6’9, his fluidity, and his ability to be an effective option in so many areas, Helgason offers a lot as a matchup problem and I believe that he is just scratching the surface of what he could potentially be. Helgason with his size allows him to be an effective option down low in the paint, as he moves quickly, has a strong feel in how to operate, and can finish at the rim or with touch down low. That doesn’t mention his impact on the boards as well as showing his athleticism in helping control the paint defensively. But what makes him so fascinating with his game is how he can stretch the floor; he is comfortable facing up with his mid-range game, knocking down shots, or putting it on the deck to create. Helgason even is comfortable and reliable from behind the arc, getting to his spots and displaying a fluid, confident release from three. He reads the defense well in finding ways to score, making opponents pay from the perimeter but also being skilled enough to create and attack. His mobility and fluidity also come into play in transition, beating a lot of his opponents down the court and creating easy opportunities. Again though, there are still areas he is working on and developing, as well as getting stronger. But one can’t deny that the upside with this young man’s game is there, which is why he has been and should be trending as a national prospect in the area.”

“He quickly showed that he has the length and mobility to impact the game defensively, altering shots and being a defensive presence but was also skilled enough to operate inside and out, step outside and knock down shots but also finish around or at the rim. Not long after that at the Carmel Tip-Off, we had this to say:”
