Going down to South Carolina, we were able to catch up with a familiar face in 2026 6’5 BJ Brown from Sumter High School, a prospect we believe could be a nice hidden gem from the state. Patrick O’Brien has highlighted him in the past, saying that he should be a sneaky target for D1 schools for what he offers. Here is what has been said:
“There is something about Brown’s game that grabs my attention and really do believe there is still a ton of potential to his game. He has great size for his position, using his length and size well to his advantage along the perimeter. He is confident in his ability to knock down shots from three or mid-range, but also showing he can attack downhill effectively to finish. Brown has shown time after time he can be an effective shotmaker on the court as well as a playmaker, and as he continues to develop, get stronger, and show his assertiveness, he should be one D1 programs have their eye on more.”
Now, his first D1 is on the board from Presbyterian, as we dive more into that offer, what it means, and who else has been expressing interest. Check out what he had to say.
Phenom: What are your thoughts on the offer from Presbyterian? What is your excitement about that program and offer?
Brown: With it being my first Division 1 offer, I was pretty excited. They are a program that has had their eyes on me for a while, and it feels good that they believe in my abilities enough to offer me a scholarship. They are a great program, and I like the kind of culture Coach Ferrell and staff are building at Presbyterian.
Phenom: What other schools have been showing interest?
Brown: The only other school that has been showing consistent interest is Coastal Carolina.
Phenom: What have they been saying your way?
Brown: They really like my game. An offer could come with a Live period coming up because Coach Gray and his staff have been watching me since my freshman year, so that offer could be coming if I have strong performances at the next live event, the 3SSB Session next weekend in Iowa.
Phenom: How would you say your game has continued to grow and develop?
Brown: The feedback I have been receiving over the years is increasing my athleticism/getting stronger, and playing above the rim. So, just adding on to my strong jump shot and being more of a 3-level scorer instead of being a jump shooter all the time,e and having the defense play honestly. In college, it isn’t going to be that easy to just get a shot off, so being able to get to the rim and rising up with or without contact is my biggest development of my game.
