Phenom Hoops is back on the court as we get a chance to watch talent from all over the country. We recently had a chance to watch Oak Hill in action last week, and it was 2026 6’6 Ethan Mgbako who made an early statement with his new program.
Mgbako was able to flourish in a variety of ways offensively, coming out early in showing his comfort from the perimeter. He was able to get to his spots and rise up from behind the arc as well as attack off the bounce to score inside and at the rim. Mgbako looked assertive in looking for his offense, as he gives a big guard vibe on the court but can also be a playmaker for his teammates. After the game, we had this to say:
“2026 6’6 Ethan Mgbako is a Top 150 player in the country and from what we saw in this game, he could rise up a bit in the rankings. However, Mgbako showed his assertiveness and versatility offensively with his game, coming out early on in showing his comfort level from the perimeter but also displayed athleticism in attacking off the bounce, running the floor in transition, scoring at the rim, and looking for his shot from multiple levels. It is easy to see why schools like Florida State, Mississippi State, LSU, and others have offered and believe he will be a target for many high-major programs.”
As we mentioned, Mgbako has added offers from Florida State, Mississippi State, and Pepperdine this past July, along with holding offers from Quinnipiac, LSU, Creighton, West Virginia, George Washington, and Kent State. But after what we saw and if Mgbako continues to play at a high level, more schools could be joining in on the race this high school season.
