Heading up to New York lately, 2026 6’6 Derrick Florence has been a target for many in the last few months, really exploding onto the scene as he has earned multiple D1 offers as of late. After earning a few offers here and there from other schools, it seems that several D1 programs have their eyes set his way and that list could only continue.
Phenom Hoops was able to get in touch with Florence about his recent blowup, as the rising senior talks more about his offers, his game, and his recruitment.
Phenom: How has this offseason been for you? What has your focus been on with your development?
Florence: This offseason has been great. I’ve worked on my game a lot, the majority of it with my jumpshot and ball handling. I also got in the weight room, building strength in the major and minor details, and a lot of conditioning.
Phenom: How would you best describe your game?
Florence: Elite defender, high motor, and one that can finish above the rim. I’m a big lob threat, I run the floor, and can be a rim protector.
Phenom: Recruitment has really picked up, with multiple D1 schools coming with offers. What has been the differenc,e and what have they been saying your way?
Florence: Yeah, my name has just been getting out and showing my film; they like what they see.
Note: Since July 1, he has earned offers from Manhattan, Louisiana, and the latest coming from Old Dominion.
Phenom: What have schools been saying they like about your game?
Florence: My defense, running the floor, and finishing ability.
Phenom: What are your thoughts on your most recent offers? Any of those schools stand out to you?
Florence: They are great schools, amazing programs. I got them all high on my list, but I have to figure out my top schools after my visits.
Phenom: What other schools have been showing interest?
Florence: West Virginia, Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, and Jacksonville State.
