Phenom Hoops’ latest recruiting news surrounds a rising prospect up north, as 2026 6’6 Alexander Egbuonu has been seeing an uptick in his recruitment with new offers coming in since this summer along with visits.

Egbuonu has added offers from Mississippi State, Xavier, Marquette, Auburn, Penn State, Boston College, West Virginia, Stanford, and Arizona State since August, and recently took a visit to Marquette. He talks in-depth about his visit, along with what impressed him and the relationship he has built with that staff.  Egbuono also talks more about the season, his development, and an upcoming visit to an SEC school.

Phenom: How has everything been going this season for you overall?

Egbuonu: I would say it is going really well. We went into the break 4-3 which is better than how we started last year. We have faced a lot of adversity as a team with a couple of starters being injured but we had a “next man up” mentality and didn’t let that affect us. I’m currently averaging 29 points and 9 rebounds a game.

Phenom: What was your mindset heading into the season and what were you hoping to show more of?

Egbuonu: My mindset coming into this season was to prove that I am one of the best players in New England and even the country. I knew that I had to set that tone from the jump by showing up for my team in the ZG Prep Classic, for which I was awarded MVP. Coming into this season I wanted to show that I am a 3-level scorer, but now I also want to show that I can rebound very well and that I’m able to create opportunities for my teammates to score.

Phenom: How was your visit to Marquette recently? What did you do and see and what impressed you?

Egbuonu: The visit to Marquette was really good! I was able to watch their team lift, practice, film sessions, and all the stuff they would do to prepare the day before a game. I was able to spend time with all the players, coaches, and managers as well. My visit fell on what they would call “Marquette Moms Night” where they would bring all the player’s moms to watch their son’s games. It was cool because I was also able to connect with some of the players’ parents and get their feedback. I would say what impressed me was how connected everyone was and they all strived to be better, not just for themselves, but for the team as a whole.

Phenom: What has the staff been like with you and how strong has the relationship been with the staff at Marquette?

Egbuonu: The staff has been very good, and I feel as though we have a good relationship. Either Coach Cody or Coach Smart calls in to check on me at least once a week. I don’t know how Coach Smart does it but he does. I also speak to the rest of the coaching staff too. Because Coach Smart loves to read he often sends me quotes or passages from a book that he is reading, and it has a deep meaning.

Phenom: What other offers do you hold?

Egbuonu: Over the summer and fall, I received offers from Mississippi State, Xavier, Marquette, and Auburn! Throughout December, I was grateful enough to receive four more offers from Boston College, Penn State, Arizona State, West Virginia, and Stanford.

Phenom: What have those schools been saying they like about your game?

Egbuonu: They have all said that they love my versatility, my frame, and my ability to play hard on both ends of the floor.

Phenom: Do you have any other visits coming up?

Egbuonu: I have an unofficial visit to Auburn on February 8th when they play Florida.

Phenom: When might you be looking to decide or narrow down?

Egbuonu: For right now, I’m going to enjoy this process. I want to finish my last year of AAU basketball and then when my parents and I feel ready we’ll figure out what’s best for me and come to a decision. My coaches have told me that there should be no rush.
