Player: Mason Ellison
Class: 2025
Position: Guard
School: Loyola Blakefield (MD)

College coaches are looking in the Maryland area and they have had their eyes on 2025 guard Mason Ellison, a 6’4 guard that has been racking in some strong offers in the last few months. He has clearly been elevating his game over the last year, and he could be in for a big upcoming season, something he gave us a little preview of at the DMV Live in which averaged 24 points per game. Phenom Hoops was able to catch up with the rising prospect from Maryland to check in on his development and mindset, what’s been going on in his recruitment, and the relationship he has been able to build.

Phenom: How was everything this past season for you and your team' And how has this summer gone for you overall'

Ellison: Everything this past high school season went well for me and my team. We finished 20-15; it was the first time in a while that the school broke 20 wins and we were able to win the Governors Challenge against very good competition! This season was a huge jump for me coming off of my sophomore year where I only averaged a little bit above 10 ppg and won all BCL Honorable Mention, to now averaging 20 ppg and winning All BCL First Team, 2nd Team All-Met, MIAA A Conference First-Team and All-MIAA.

Phenom: How would you best describe your game and how you like to operate' Where do you flourish'

Ellison: How I would describe my game is an athletic guard who likes to get to the rim and rise up above defenders while being able to rise up and hit the mid-range. I am capable of using ball screens and hitting 3 points off the dribble and the catch-and-shoot. Defensively, I think for a guard I do a great job of using my athleticism to contest shots at the rim while also being able to play the gaps and get steals.

Phenom: What areas of your game have you been working on to develop'

Ellison: Some areas of my game that I have been developing is definitely my on-the-ball defense trying to become an elite on-ball defender that can also rebound. Offensively becoming a better point guard, being able to run an offense, and assisting my teammates while becoming more effective with my dribbles to help me get more open shots.

Phenom: What are your thoughts on your latest offer from Fairfield' What did the staff have to say, who has been your main contact, and what do you know about them'

Ellison: My thoughts on my latest offer is that I am very appreciative and proud that the coaches from that school can see that the work that I have been putting in is working on in-game situations and that it has made me want to work even harder into becoming a better version of myself. The staff said that they noticed the work that I have been putting in and wanted me to get bigger (weight-wise) and constructive criticism when it comes to my game.

Phenom: What other offers do you hold' And who has been strong with you from those'

Ellison: I hold offers from Towson, Howard, Mt. St Mary’s, Loyola (MD), Indiana St, Maryland, Delaware, George Mason, Fairfield, Binghamton, Yale, Boston, Murray St, Rhode Island, UMBC, American, Radford, and Old Dominion.

Phenom: What kind of relationships have you been able to build with these programs'

Ellison: I have been able to build great relationships with all these programs and I am thankful for everything they have been able to do for me so far.
