All programs are looking for shooters and 2024 Jackson McAndrew can fit into that picture, as he is one of the premier shooters in the area. A high IQ prospect, McAndrew has been catching the eyes of multiple programs and recently made a visit to Wisconsin.
He spoke with Phenom Hoops about that visit to Wisconsin, what he has built with the staff there, what he did during the visit, and what other visits he has planned down the road. See what he had to say.
Phenom: Wanted to first ask you how you are preparing for the upcoming season' What are you hoping to show more this season with your team'
McAndrew: Just being in the gym every day and getting better. I’m in the weight room to get stronger as well. Hoping to show that I’m more of an all-around player than I get credit for and I’m very versatile. Also, being more of a leader this year. My main goal this year is to win a state championship and I believe we can do that.
Phenom: How would you best describe your game right now' Anything you are focusing on'
McAndrew: I’m an elite shooter, a very versatile player, and have high IQ. I also have a good handle on the ball. The main thing I’m focusing on is getting stronger and working on my athleticism. Also continuing to get my ball handle even tighter.
Phenom: How was your visit to Wisconsin' What did you get to see and do' Who and what did you all talk about with the staff'
McAndrew: It was great! I got to see practices, watch their football game, spent a lot of time with the coaching staff and players, met with the strength coach and academic advisor, and toured the campus and facilities. I talked to all the staff but had a meeting with Coach Gard and Coach Krabbenhoft, where they stressed how much they think I’d fit in with their system, style of play, and how versatile of a player I am.
Phenom: What kind of relationship have you built with that program'
McAndrew: I’ve built a really good relationship with them over the last year. Especially Coach Gard and Coach Krabbenhoft. Continuing to grow as well.
Phenom: What other offers do you currently hold'
McAndrew: Creighton, Nebraska, St. Thomas, Wisconsin, and Northern Iowa.
Phenom: What have those schools been saying in general that they like about your game and what you can provide'
McAndrew: They all love how elite of a shooter I am. A very versatile player, a high IQ, a good handle on the ball, and good floor vision.
Phenom: What other schools have been showing interest your way'
McAndrew: Virginia, Wake Forest, Iowa, Xavier, Iowa State, Colorado State, and Minnesota.
Phenom: Have any other upcoming visits'
McAndrew: Creighton official during the basketball season, Wake Forest visit during basketball season as well. No dates set for those yet and possibly others (down the road).
