Mikey Williams… he is a name that almost every basketball fan knows by now. He is a viral sensation, he is must-see TV, and fans from around the country come to watch what he may do next. Williams is one of the biggest stories in the country for high school basketball and Carolina fans got their first true glance of just what he is capable of doing on the court at the Phenom November Classic.
One thing is for sure, it wasn’t going to come easy and that goes for anyone who comes to the Hoop State because when a player of that magnitude joins the family of players in North Carolina, others are going to bring it day in and day out.
Hoop State fans had themselves a treat though on Saturday night, as it may have been the game of the year (especially in a weird/tough year like we have had in 2020). The target was on the back of Lake Norman Christian and Mikey Williams and everyone knew that Coach Bernardi and his players at the Burlington School were going to bring it.
They did just that, which is why Mikey’s performance on Saturday night was even more special.
It was the first for many fans and viewers to watch Williams in action against his first big-time battle from a team in North Carolina and all he did was post a 40-ball on the board to help lead his team to a big 91-79 victory.
He proved himself in front of thousands of viewers (both in-person and online) of just how impactful he can be on the court. Williams was able to show his elite feel and scoring ability on the floor to go with his college-ready body, his athleticism, and playmaking on the court.
Watching Williams in person, he just has that “it” factor that not many players have. He can get a basket whenever he wants and however he wants, and he does a tremendous ability in finding ways to score, as you can see that he believes there isn’t anyone that can stop or even slow him down.
It was evident with his 40-point performance on Saturday night, scoring from three, rising up over defenders with fadeaway jumpers, getting and finishing at the rim, or simply creating opportunities to get to the line; he did and showed it all and just had everyone memorized.
In his first HoopState battle, Mikey proved himself in a big way but it was also a great way to officially welcome him to the state of North Carolina. Trust us, everyone can’t wait to see more of him and Lake Norman Christian in action.
But his performance at the Phenom November Classic will certainly live in the memories of many for quite some time.
