Virginia is loaded with talent around the state and one of the top scorers in the class of 2022 is certainly one to start tracking now. 2022 6’4 Kendon Peebles from Hampton Christian Academy put on a show this past season, averaging nearly 21 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals per game.
Peebles is a long, wing-type prospect that plays the two or the three, and that can guard multiple levels on the floor. In speaking more with head coach Domeka Kelley, he would say that he is only scratching the surface of his full potential right now and the future for him is bright.
The sophomore prospect showed a wide range of abilities to impact the floor. He can score on all three levels, get to the rim and finish through contact, step out and knock down the jumper with range, rebounds the ball really well, and is now rebounding and pushing the ball in transition as well. That doesn’t mention his ability to defend multiple positions, as he has had to guard 1-4 on many occasions this past season. Lastly, he defends really well both on and off the ball, usually picking up the top opponent on the court.
Coach Kelley said that he has grown a lot in his game, being a very good transition player and showing his jumper early on but he has become more assertive on the court and is showing off his athleticism on the court, dunking and finishing through contact.
Peebles has garnered some early interest as well from college programs including Liberty, North Carolina Central, Old Dominion, Lincoln Memorial, and a few others.
Again though, this may only be the start for this young man and should certainly be a name to start tracking in the state of Virginia.
