Sheed Wallace Select made a ton of noise this summer and their players really captured some eyes, including one 2022 6’8 prospect in Broderick Ellis who will be at GBB Academy this upcoming season. When talking about his game, Ellis creates a matchup problem with his size and skill/mobility. He is a tough, two-way prospect that understands how to operate inside and out offensively, as well as one that makes an impact on the boards and defensive side.

Phenom Hoops recently spoke with Ellis to check in on the latest, to see how his summer went with Sheed Wallace Select, how his game has continued to develop, his excitement about the upcoming high school season, and the latest with his recruitment.

Phenom: Starting off, how was everything this summer with Sheed Wallace'
Ellis: It was a great experience. The coaches were tough on us, from the start, but I definitely grew as a player and a person. I loved being in an environment around people who wanted to succeed just as badly as me. I’ve come a long way as a wing over the course of the summer and I am still looking to improve. It was great to represent a name as big as Rasheed Wallace and kept that in mind every time I stepped on the court.

Phenom: You traveled all over the place with the team.  What was that like and playing in front of coaches and in big-time games'
Ellis: It was a pretty life-changing experience honestly, the most I have ever traveled in one summer.  Before the games, it was always a little intimidating knowing one good performance could change your life but once the adrenaline gets going, it’s all just basketball.  We competed against a lot of the top teams in the country and were able to come out on top in a number of those games.  I wouldn’t have rather done it with any other group.  The sheer will to win from our Rasheed Wallace Select team seemed to push us over the edge when we needed it.  Definitely an experience that made me want to stay focused and work hard.

Phenom: How has your game grown over the last year' And have any schools been reaching out your way'
Ellis: I’ve grown a lot as I’ve transitioned to playing on the outside. I’m learning through a lot of playing and watching film, how to find my spots on the floor. I’ve received an offer from Navy earlier this season. I’ve been hearing from Lehigh, Appalachian State, VMI, The Citadel, and a couple of other local Division II schools as well. Hoping to hear from a few more as my game continues to progress.

Phenom: How was it to receive that offer from Navy and what have they been saying your way and communicating with you'
Ellis: It was really exciting. I actually was just there last week attending an elite camp. The tour was awesome and so was the camp.

Phenom: What did they have to say and have they continued to recruit you hard'
Ellis: They said they loved my skillset and that I could be dangerous as I continue to put on more size and develop my body.  And yes, I have a great relationship with Coach Perry and Coach DeChellis.  I plan on a more official visit in the future.

Phenom: What have those other schools been saying, in general, your way'
Ellis: The biggest thing they have all liked is my versatility and my motor. A lot of them have said they want to see me play more before offering.

Phenom: Do you have any other visits planned or camps coming up'
Ellis: I’m actually going to Wingate’s elite camp and will be visiting Belmont Abbey sometime soon.  The coach wants me to take a tour and have an opportunity to actually practice and play with the players returning from break.
