It’s that time of year, recruiting is at a high. Colleges are trying to round out their rosters with 2020 guys and players are narrowing their lists and choosing schools.
Let’s take a look at some players who college coaches should add to their boards from Session 2 of NC Phenom 150 Exposure Camp.
6’4″ Austin Locklear
Cape Fear Christian (Erwin, NC)
Locklear has proven to be a big-time shot-maker. Not only with his deep range, but with his length and athleticism. He turned it on when his team needed it the most, a solid defender, but he had game takeover type of offense.
6’7″ Trey Pittman
Greenfield School (Wilson, NC)
Pittman is a name everyone knows. He has been an integral piece to winning state championships. He is a mismatch forward, who is skilled and fundamentally sound. He plays the game the right way and scholarship schools should be thrilled to get him.
6’5″ Avante Matthews
Atkins HS (Winston-Salem, NC)
Matthews is a big-bodied forward. He is skilled, with hands and range beyond the arc. But he is also explosive at the rim, with the ability to rise up quickly. He shot the ball well off the catch and put the ball on the floor from the high post. Good feet/hands on the block, a lot to like here from a productive player.
6’6″ Solomon Tucker
Northside Christian (Charlotte, NC)
Tucker has excellent size and runs the floor very well. He has good length with quick-twitch athleticism. He is a good rebounder and did well in the passing lanes. He still needs a bit of strength, but colleges pay someone to put on strength, so that shouldn’t be an issue. He won a lot of games here.
6’2″ Jay Hickman
Northwood Temple (Fayetteville, NC)
Hickman is a known shooter, one of the best in the state. However, he continued to show here his ability to play create. He has excellent vision to go along with a solid wing handle. Oh yeah, and he can really, really shoot it. A Queens offer is in hand, there is a lot to like here.
6’5″ Kurtis Taylor
Neuse Christian (Raleigh, NC)
Taylor continues to come out and produce. He has good size and length, but also showcased ball skills and the ability to make plays. He is a solid rebounder and carries a 3-point range. He can get downhill off the bounce and is a scrappy rebounder.
