Combine Academy under Jeff McInnis proved themselves all year long to be an up and coming program on the biggest stage. His players continued to show their IQ, their feel for the game and embracing the program’s will to win.
2020 6’7 Josh Rubio was one of those players that saw his season flourish at Combine this year. Over the last few weeks, Rubio has racked up offers from Catawba Valley, Garden City CC, Montreat College, and Erskine College, while several other programs have been expressing interest his way as well.
“It feels amazing, all the work I have put in as getting my jump shot and me sliming down, coaches are starting to notice what I have been doing.”
Playing at Combine Academy has been a huge help for Rubio. Under McInnis and his staff, they have done a tremendous job with his game overall. The senior has always had that football-like frame that has helped him play physical down low but he now shows the ability to be a threat along the perimeter and other areas as well.
Most recently, Phenom Hoops watched Rubio at the Phenom HoopState Championship. Patrick O’Brien had this to say about Rubio’s game:
“2020 6’7 Josh Rubio is showing why programs are starting to offer him. With his size down low, he can be a bull but with a soft touch… plays his game. But now being a true threat from three; that is tough.”
Rubio received his first offer from Catawba Valley back in late February and he had this to say about receiving that offer.
“They said that the way I play fits their style and I can play at a high level the way my IQ is,” he replied.
As far as where he may end up, other offers could potentially come his way but he still has to make visits to see where he would best fit.
But he certainly has shown that he can be a great fit for a program on the floor, which is why several other schools offered after Catawba Valley. And though it has taken some time and has been a long road for Rubio over the years with a lot of sweat and hard work being put in on the court, it seems that is all paying off.
