Kody Shubert
“Swag and Moxy”
In today’s basketball recruiting world, the buzzwords are length and athleticism. If you’re at the local recreation center and was picking teams based upon height and look, 5’11 ’18 Kody Shubert may be one of the last players picked. However, after watching him play for one game, that mindset will quickly change. First of all, Shubert has the “basketball swagger” and simply knows how to play. He has excellent court vision and has advanced ball handling and passing skills, not to mention a very consistent and reliable perimeter game including an efficient 3-point shot.
Currently, Shubert is getting interest from Davidson, Charlotte, Appalachian State, Yale, Wake Forest and UC-Irvine. This season, Shubert is getting it done both on the hardwood and also the classroom. He is averaging 19.7 PPG, 7.2 APG, 6.6 RPG and 3.4 SPG. Shubert is a high-energy player and flat out gets it done on both ends of the court. In addition to his lofty statistics on the basketball court, Shubert sports an impressive 4.5 GPA. He belongs to the Honors Society and the Beta Club.
This past summer Shubert played with Team Charlotte and was instrumental in their overall success. He brings tremendous flair and quickly becomes a fan favorite no matter the venue. Shubert plays an exciting brand of basketball and makes the difficult pass look easy. While he can score at all levels and create his own shot off the dribble, he is best in distributing the ball to his teammates. He makes his teammates better and his competitive spirit quickly becomes contagious on whatever team he plays on.
While Shubert currently has a lot of D1 interest, we strongly feel that interest will turn into offers sooner rather than rather. It’s just a matter of time before colleges will overcome the “look” test and realize how talented this young man really is!
