We first watched Matthew Woods at the 10th Annual NC Phenom 150 camp back in 2012. We wrote, “Matthew is a complete PG with excellent size and length. He has a great feel for the game and sees the floor really well. His court vision, basketball IQ, and understanding of the game are advanced for his age/grade. He also has the ability to knock down perimeter shots with consistency. His attitude and poise are strong attributes and watch for his stock to rise.”

This past season, Matthew played for Coach Brett Newman of Elev8 Academy. Prior to attending Elev8, Matthew averaged 18 PPG and 4 APG for Asheville Christian. He was a three-time All Conference player, two time All State (NCISAA) and Conference MVP. At Elev8, Matthew averaged 14 PPG, 9 APG and only 1.3 turnovers per game. He has continued to produce at the high school and AAU level. Coach Brett Newman stated, “Matthew is the guy you want handling the ball in pressure situations, he does not turn the ball over and makes the best play every time. Coach Gannon Baker stated, “this kid can play, he’s a D1 guard that will help teams win championships.

Standing a lengthy 6¹2, Matthew sports an impressive 6¹7 wingspan. He¹s a high character young man who is NCAA fully qualified. While D1 schools have entertained Matthew with an official offer, things have yet to fall in place. We have pegged Matthew as a solid D1 prospect, but he has no problem playing D2 or Juco.

Schools that are still in need of a PG, should contact Coach Brett Newman at 561-891-0982 or Gannon Baker at 757-652-8232.
