Virginia Top 80: March 19

    RECAPS

The Prestige of the Top 80

Last year the North Carolina Top 80 was the premier showcase event in the state. No other event brings together, competition of play, the highest level of teaching, and high level exposure for the kids by way of national and regional scouts and journalists.

Let’s look at the facts of the matter. There were thirty-three 2015 (rising seniors) invited to play in the 2014 North Carolina Top 80. Of those thirty-three student athletes, thirty-two have been offered, or accepted full scholarships to play basketball. Many such as Rayjon Tucker, Chris Clemons, Jaylen Stowe, Ebuka Izunda, and Quayson Williams came into the event with no offers and little interest. Each have now committed to a Division 1 program.

Another different aspect for the Top 80 is the staff. The selection of coaches is almost as strenuous as the player selection process. Our view is that the camp can only run as smoothly as the people working it, so why not bring in the best. Between our 16 coaches, we put together a who’s who of sideline talent. In 2014 our coaching staff racked up 271 years of experience, 3659 career wins, and 30 State Championship titles. No other staff in the area can boast those kinds of numbers. These numbers are the records from the ones teaching, interacting, and coaching the kids.

The 2015 Top 80 also broke out some new names that used the platform to kick start their recruitment. At the time of the Top 80 there were numerous attendees that did not have much going on with their recruitment, and left with some buzz around their names.

Our Top 80 platform not only allows you to look at the player in game, but it allows you to look at the player’s leadership and work ethic. A lot more goes into the player’s recruitment outside of their per game averages. The Top 80 runs players through warm-ups and drill sessions prior to game time. Not only does this allow the players to get into rhythm of play so the games are not flat, but it also gives all the scouts the ability to watch how serious the player takes the game. There is a well-known saying that holds true here, “You never know who is watching, so always work your hardest.” Phenom Hoops has around 100 schools that subscribe to our service. The scouts who come to the events have the ears of most college coaches in the county, the “extra stuff” you give off at the Top 80 matters.

This year’s Top 80 event will be no different than last. We will bring in the 80 best players in the state. The big names everyone knows will be there and others that you don’t know yet who will break out. We will have the biggest scouts in the business in the stands watching as they have come to trust that Phenom Hoops is the name to bring them the next group of great talent.

“The Top 80 is hosted by the Phenom Hoop Report and will feature many of the state's best prospects, along with a few others I've yet to watch in person. The one-day affair should prove very illuminating for the Class of 2015 as well as 2016 and 2017.”

-- Scout.com’s National Analyst Rob Harrington

“Phenom Hoops provides us (national scouts) with the opportunity to get both a head start on the future and see the top players in their backyard.”

--National Scout Clark Francis (on the NBPA Top 100 Committee and the McDonald’s All American Committee)

“The 80 best high school basketball players in the state of North Carolina were in action on Saturday afternoon and Blogger So Dear was there to cover the event.  Phenom Hoop Report, organized an outstanding event at Proehlific Park in Greensboro, North Carolina. As expected, it was a first-class event.”
