Robert Braswell first came across our radars when he first moved to South Carolina from Germany in 2015. The son of a military mom, he enrolled at Blythewood at the start of his sophomore year, however he walked through our doors a couple of months earlier at Phenom's Champion Showcase in July.
After first watching him in 2015 we wrote, It was there that we first saw a gangly 6'6' wing who had natural athleticism, great length and ball skills that were beyond his years. Over his three years at Blythewood High School the team made it to two SCHSL 5A State Final Fours and amassed a 67-16 record in South Carolinas largest division.
Now standing at a lengthy 6'9', Braswell led Blythewood High School averaging 16 points and 8 rebounds per game during his senior season. Playing with Team United on the EYBL last Summer, Braswell shot 52% from the 3-point arc. He is also the back to back SCHSL 5A State high jump champion, having cleared 6'10' this past weekend. All in all, he checks all the boxes kids need to check.
Braswell is also a two-time alum of the prestigious South Carolina Top 80 event. This event brought together the very best talent the state of South Carolina has to offer and put them under one roof to compete. After his performance in the most recent event, Braswell left no doubt in our minds that he was a Power-5 prospect, 'Moving onto a player that is capable of being a true star at the next level with his incredible two-way presence, Robert Braswell. He's a forward that can play big or small extremely well (based on whatever the team needs), able to post up smaller players or taking larger players off the dribble, both with relative ease. Braswell scores efficiently from all three levels and is a constant threat to dunk on any opponent in his path. He has a great feel and IQ for the game, looking to create for teammates whenever possible and always seeming to be in the right place at the right time. Defensively, Braswell can guard both forward spots at an above average rate and is even capable of bumping over to centers in the right situation. Next in his development process is to continue developing his low-post arsenal, as it would make him nearly impossible to defend. Coach Bendel on Braswell: 'Rob is a multipurpose player with endless potential'he scores quite effectively from all three levels; his athleticism allows him to play well above the rim on blocks, dunks, and rebounds. Rob has a terrific skillset and can be the best player on the floor at times. He has tremendous feel and is a nice two-way guy with fantastic length. His vocal leadership could improve his overall floor presence. Rob is a reserved, very coachable player, that is ready to release his inner-monster.'
Great snag for Syracuse as he fits in with exactly what they have traditionally done. While we have yet another Carolina kid who has to go out of state to play at the appropriate level. As he continues to put on weight, watch him blossom.
