The Phenom Top 80 event is the top showcase in the state, if not one of the more talent packed ones in the nation. Every year Phenom brings the best freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in the state under one roof and let them measure themselves versus the best of the best. Look on the rosters of college programs all over the nation and you will find kids that have played in this prestigious event. With so much talent on hand kids know coming in the door that they need to bring their A games. Show well and see your stock rise like never before. Don't bring it, and you miss out on a tremendous opportunity. With that being said, who caught our eye' Some of the standouts from this event were as follows:

Cartier Jernigan, 6'1 2019 G at West Charlotte HS

Tough lead guards that can score as easy as they can set up those around them are hard to find. That is the type of player Jernigan is though. He gets great elevation on his pull up jumper, has start/stop ability that is almost unfair, and is strong on and off the ball. He can score in any number of ways and looks as comfortable in the half court as he does playing with speed. Already holding offers from 2 D1 programs, look for his stock to take off after a solid showing here in this event.

Elbert Ellis, 6'2 2019 G at Mt Zion

El has been on our radar for a while now but has flown beneath the radar of sorts as far as his status as a prospect goes. That ended this year as he put together a solid season as the lead guy for Mt Zion. El has a good mix of speed, strength, and feel for the game that you like to see in a point guard. He has improved year over year and our gut tells us that more is yet to come from this talented youngster. Several D1 programs are already on this kid. The RDU region has produced several good PG's of late, Ellis looks like one of the latest to roll off that assembly line.

Bryant Randelman, 6'4 2019 G at Durham Academy

Not many kids have helped their stock of late as much as Bryant has. Kid has always had game, now he has the body and mentality to go along with it. He has a steady all-around game to him that allows him to fit whatever need you have on your team. We have seen him as the leading man on a team and as a support/glue guy as well. He just is one of those kids you want on your team as you know he is going to make you better for being there. Bryant has been an under the radar talent for too long. Expect his stock to rise after this event and into the AAU season.

Jamahri Harvey, 6'5 2019 G at Freedom Christian'' Jamahri looks the part out on the wing as he has a great frame to go along with the athletic ability needed to succeed at the next level. He is at his best when playing in an up-tempo system where he can attack off the bounce and attack off the bounce. He can score at all 3 levels and defend multiple positions. Consistency will be the next thing to add to his game as he moves forward. All the parts needed are here. As he learns to put it all together on a regular basis we expect his stock to rise.

John Michael Wright, 6'1 2019 G at Northwood Temple'' John is overlooked at times as Northwood Temple is loaded with next level talent. To not appreciate this kid's game is a mistake as he has a big time game on him too. John has all the tools to be a player at the next level and motor to go with it. What we love most is how tough this kid is when he plays the game. We have seen him go a few times now and he has proven to be a leader capable of making those around him better as well as being able to go get his as needed. Whoever is going to land this kid at the next level will be getting a winner.
