It was a great weekend of hoops at Proehlific Park with some of the most talented players around the nation came together to battle it out.

A handful of players impressed our staff, as some were already well known and others put their names on our radar. We'll look at some players who stood out above the rest and performed on the big stage. Some of these guys are future stars of basketball, so we might as well get a head start on getting to know them.

Caleb Burgess 6'3

Club: Court Kings

Position: Point Guard

Burgess came into session two on a mission to prove he was amongst the upper echelon of floor generals present.

Offensively, he's good shooting off the dribble. Burgess utilizes a killer crossover to create space and gets clean looks at the rim. With a mid-range jumper that is reliable, Burgess can heat up in a hurry and causes serious problems for opposing defenses. A very unselfish player, Burgess puts his teammates in position to succeed. 'He displayed good court vision through three games and in open space, running the break. 'Burgess is able to thread the needle and fit pinpoint passes into small gaps.

The class of 2019 is loaded with talent and Burgess will continue seeing top competition playing with both Court Kings and Big Shots Elite for the remainder of the summer. Burgess has a chance to seriously up his buzz this summer before taking on a bigger role with his school team this upcoming season.

Jabril Griffin-McCutchen 6'1

Club: Charlotte Nets- Anthony Morrow Elite U17

Position: Combo Guard

McCutchen was one of the best all-around athletes in attendance at the showcase. This kid can really get up. 'It's impressive watching McCutchen spring from the floor and glide through the air effortlessly. On offense, he's a force in the lane and he shimmies through small cracks in the defense and finishes at the rack routinely.

McCutchen's jumper is a work in progress but he's fluent with good form and follow through. Acute lateral quickness and superb footwork make him a lockdown defender as well. McCutchen is a star football player and ranked second in NC for the long jump.

Before this event he was flying below our staff's radar but you can't help but notice a guy with this amount of natural ability who also plays the hardest on the court. McCutchen has a high motor, he flies up and down the floor, and defenses struggled to stay in front of him over the weekend.

Josh Hall 6'6

Club: Durham Hurricanes 2019

Position: Forward

At his size and young age, Hall is easy to identify on the court he passes the eye test from first glance.

What kept our attention all weekend was Hall's overall skillset. 'He possesses the ability to play the two through four and Hall covers a lot of space with long strides and surprising quickness. He scored in bunches over the weekend and it's a tough task keeping him out the lane. Like most young forwards his outside game is still developing but if Hall is left out there alone he can punish the defense.

For the Durham Hurricanes, Hall was the top scoring option; he's aggressive and unafraid of big moments. Defensively he's a decent shot blocker with his length.' There is upside for him to be a tenacious shot blocker and rebounder. Hall is a winner as he led his team to a couple of hard fought win in the David Rose Classic.' Coach Steve Smith has seen some greats come through Oak Hill and Hall could be this storied programs next star.

Jahlen King 6'1

Club: Carolina Wolves

Position: Point Guard

One of the absolute sauciest players we had the privilege of watching, King is a smooth operator on the court.

There are so many things King does well with the rock in his hands.' He is a gifted slasher in his array of moves and possesses a devastating euro-step. Aside from a lackluster performance against a stacked Team Loaded squad, King was relatively lights out for the Wolves. A true floor general King can command an offense, he sets things in motion for Carolina to operate.

King sees the floor well and makes good decisions with the basketball as a floor general should. What stands out is his leadership and approach to the game, King is mentally tough as he keeps his side poised when critical moments arise in the game. The rising junior will continue to garner interest on the recruiting trail after a hot start to the summer!

Dajon Townsend 5'8

Club: SC: Tigers

Position: Point Guard

The youngest player on this list was very impressive in our two day showcase, Townsend is an eighth grader who plays and approaches the game beyond his years.

SC Tigers 14U club was the youngest team at the David Rose Classic. Against stronger and older players, Townsend competed every time he laced up. He's tough and brings it repeatedly, his team took some lumps playing up but Townsend never let up he charged at the defense, no matter the score.

Against other top young guards Jordan McPhatter and Sam Brown, Townsend put up double digit scoring efforts. He led SC Tigers in scoring all but one game which was their finale. He is a capable scorer at all three levels in the early parts of his development and he also has advanced ball handling skills.' If you play Townsend to close you will fall victim to a blow by. Whatever high school program lands the young guard next year will have their point guard of the future locked in.

Honorable Mention

Jordan Williams 6'4

Club: Team Loaded

Position: Wing

Williams is an exciting wing prospect with him being so long and athletic; at his current size he rotates between guard and forward.

Looking ahead, Williams just completed his freshman campaign and has years of growing left to do. Williams is a strong finisher at the rim and drives the ball with force. His defensive ability is what stands out most at this point as he plays bigger than listed and is always a factor on the boards. Also currently the starting QB for Smith high school's varsity team and it'll be interesting to see which path Williams decides to pursue

Tre'Von Barnes 6'5

Club: Charlotte Nets

Position: Forward

Barnes is a dog and he's got a little Draymond Green in him skill and demeanor wise.

When you talk about prospects who play the game with a chip on their shoulder Barnes fits the mold.' He goes to war for his guys and doesn't back down from anyone on the court. The young forward is a fighter and he's a defensive anchor and relentless rebounder. Barnes did well bodying up on taller defenders in the paint and switching to guards off screens over the weekend. His team won their age group in impressive fashion, after dropping their first game Barnes challenged teammates to match his intensity and the rest of the gang answered the call.

Kyle Forbes 6'5

Club: Carolina Knights

Position: Wing

A traditional three and defensive type of wing, Forbes proved to be one of the best shot blocking perimeter players on display.

In one matchup he recorded blocks on consecutive possessions and then followed it up with a three ball on the offensive end. Forbes completely changed the momentum for his side.' It was truly special to watch a player dedicate so much time and effort to defense. Forbes is fundamentally sound and possesses good defensive instincts, while also being a good shooter.
