Zion Davis 6'4 200 2019 TPLS Christian Academy, Richmond VA

Zion is a talented and crafty guard with a powerfully built frame, athletic and agile. He is capable of playing either guard position and small forward at the high school level as he combines bullish drives to the rim with a crafty handle and a deft shooting touch with range beyond the arc. Not necessarily explosive, Zion is ball quick and knows how to get to spots on the floor and capitalize on his natural playmaking tools. Zion is extremely efficient offensively, he shoots it well from all levels and he has demonstrated the ability to run a team and make sound decisions with the ball.

He is much quicker than he appears as he pounds the dribble using quick crossovers and a powerful first step to get into the defenders body where he is able to overpower most guards and attack the paint. He plays off that contact nicely using it to create separation for his very good mid range jumper or taking advantage of the angle the contact creates to muscle his way to the rim. Zion's smooth shooting stroke is a vast contrast to his punishing playmaking style. He has sound mechanics and a reliable shooting stroke and is a very good shooter both off the dribble or on catch and shoot opportunities. While a very good catch and shoot option most of his opportunities come in the mid range area operating with the ball in his hands and using a very good handle to create scoring opportunities for himself and for teammates. He makes great decisions and is an intelligent passer. A very crafty ball handler,

Zion attacks the rim fearlessly and also shows a fantastic touch in close even fighting off contact. He does an adequate job defending the dribble and won't get beat on a straight line so he moves his feet and contains nicely. Zion is extremely unselfish and most of his shot opportunities come within the flow of the offense. Despite his scoring ability and effectiveness in the one on one he stays within the team concept. Zion's likeable personality makes him a favorite among teammates and his on court leadership and competitiveness makes him a player coaches can look to for leadership and teammates can rally behind. Zion is attracting some attention among low majors and division II schools and should see offers come his way this season. He currently has interest from Maryland-Eastern Shore, IUPUI, Bethel College, Francis Marion, Chowan, Virginia Union, Washington State, Delaware State and Mercer.
