Tyler Mullen 6'5 180 2021 Ocean Lakes High School, Virginia Beach VA

Tyler is going to be a special player as he has a great skill set, length, athleticism, versatility and as his body fills out he's going to be a highly regarded prospect who should attract Division 1 attention.' He's as smooth an outside shooter as a shooter can be yet as violent and aggressive attacking and finishing at the rim as one can be.' Tyler has a tremendous frame with indications of further vertical growth.' A frame featuring broad shoulders that looks ready to accept the bulk he's working to add.' Tyler can handle the ball and make a play off the bounce and also rebound and lead the break.' He uses long and powerful strides and his length allows him to get where he wants to in a hurry with the dribble.' He has a sound shooting stroke and a smoothness that impressed me as I watched him catch and elevate into his picture-perfect jumper.' His long arms, high release and a 6'5 frame make his shot nearly impossible to effectively contest.' A very good shooter beyond the arc, Tyler also rips into a space-eating first step and can skillfully stop on a dime and launch into a very consistent jumper off the dribble.' He can turn the corner or use a very good burst to blow by many defenders and explode to the rim and punish a defender.

In transition, he can push it hard and suddenly stop and pop and stick the jumper at a good rate.' Tyler is very good as a ball-handler and can serve as a lead guard when needed.' He displays very good playmaking potential.' He also has an array of moves in the post and is very good moving off the ball and hitting jumpers off the catch.' Tyler's versatility extends to the defensive end of the floor where he is a disruptive defender in the full court, capable of using his length and athleticism to get deflections and create turnovers.' He has good defensive mechanics, great anticipation and agility.' Tyler is an explosive leaper and rebounds the ball but also has good anticipation and athleticism to make plays all over the floor defensively.' Ocean Lakes Head Coach Nic Mace has been impressed with Tyler's work ethic and desire to learn.' He said Tyler has been working very hard in the weight room and with his nutrition to add muscle to his frame which he believes will take his game to another level.

Tyler is the son of a local hoops legend as his Dad is former Bayside High School (Virginia Beach) two-time state basketball champion and Virginia High School League Player of the Year Mario Mullen.' Mario went on to star at Old Dominion University from 1992-1996 and is currently an assistant basketball coach at Ocean Lakes HS.' Like his Dad, Tyler is a very good three point shooter and scorer.' I would not be surprised to see Tyler enjoy similar success as a player and would urge coaches to the division 1 level begin watching him now!
