Jamarcus Wray-Finney 6'2 170 2021 Wilson High School, Portsmouth VA

Jamarcus combines a strong, sturdy frame with quickness and versatility. He is a tremendous athlete, highly competitive and really gets after it on both ends of the floor. Jamarcus is more of a downhill guard employing a quick first step, crisp quick crossovers and a good mix of speed and physicality. He demonstrates excellent body control as he negotiates his way through traffic attacking the basket in punishing fashion. He has the ability to overpower many guards and the quickness to beat many others off the bounce. Jamarcus really impresses in the open floor where his playmaking skills are most obvious. He can handle and pushes the ball with good end to end quickness. He can make a dribble move and break down a defender and get to the rim and he also demonstrates very good passing skills and decision making. In the half-court, in addition to his ability to get to the rim with regularity Jamarcus poses a threat from beyond the arc where he hits the catch and shoot jumper at a good rate. He continues to make great strides shooting off dribble pull-ups. Jamarcus is an excellent rebounder on both ends of the floor where his strength, motor, and quick elevation serves him well. His physical gifts combined with his persistence and effort to make him a force around the glass. He has a great feel also which allows him to be in a position to make plays. He does a great job reading the ball off the rim and has excellent timing for rebounds. His overall and lateral quickness and his upper body strength allow him to defend 1-3 effectively. I expect Jamarcus will establish himself this year as an impact high school player. He certainly has the physical tools and intangibles. Jamarcus also has the bloodlines as his cousin is former Norcom High School star Ben Finney who starred at Old Dominion University. His cousin Dorian Finney-Smith who also played at Norcom High School in Portsmouth starred at Virginia Tech and then Florida and currently plays for the NBA's Dallas Mavericks. He also is the cousin of former Wilson high School star Monnazjea Finney-Smith who played her college basketball at VCU and Hampton University. Jamarcus should be able to carve out his own identity while also establishing himself as one of the 757's most impactful players. He's one to watch and a likely double/double contributor for the Wilson Presidents.
