It is always exciting to see former Phenom Hoop Report players take their game to the next level and continue to find success at the college level.  Each and every year, there have been players that have come through and played in front of Phenom Hoop Report, who are now showcasing their talent on the college level.  We want to recognize those former alums, so here is our latest prospect.

Player: Coby White

College: North Carolina
High School: Greenfield HS

His career was short at North Carolina but man, was it fun while it lasted at the college level.  Coby White’s career until now has been one that just brings enjoyment to the eyes of Phenom Hoop Report, as we have watched him grow and earn everything he has accomplished so far.

Now, we all will be watching him take his talents to the NBA, a goal that he set for himself a long time ago.

Watching White throughout high school, it was always fascinating to see this young man play.  Every night, fans got a treat from this scoring guard and he simply couldn’t be stopped.  And year after year, it was evident that White was one of the top players in the country; he simply couldn’t be stopped.  It took a little time for national outlets to catch on but when they did, White continued to play with something to prove.

At Greenfield, he averaged 31.0 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists in his senior season and broke the all-time NC high school scoring record.  And our national scouts continued to say that White has the talent to make it to the next level.  One of the last times we had the opportunity to watch White was at the NC Top 80 and he came in with a mindset to show why he was one of the top players.  He did just that and we remember everyone at the event was simply in shock in what they were watching.

He took that mindset to Chapel Hill, where he averaged 16.1 points and 4.1 assists, made a freshman record 82 3-pointers and had the fifth-highest scoring average ever by a UNC freshman.

The joy that it brings to Phenom Hoops to watch this young prospect grow into the man he is today and one that left everything out on the floor, words can’t explain.  Watching him year after year and seeing that White had that “it” factor that so many players search for, it seems like it all came together at the right time and now, White will be torching the nets and running the fast break for an NBA organization.

Congrats Coby on everything and we can’t wait to see showcase the world your talent in the NBA.
