Must-See Talent: 6'3 '19 Caleb Mills (Asheville Christian/PSB Elite)

The recruitment process can be somewhat confusing in the sense that a player can perform at an
incredibly high level throughout their high school career and have zero interest. The opposite is
true as well, where a recruit is all based on potential and upside, yet holds numerous offers.
Realistically, we should be somewhere in-between, so that players like Caleb Mills can earn the
proper offers. There have been over a dozen instances in the last calendar year where Mills
showcased his full arsenal as a prospect, and did so in front of these same noteworthy coaches,
but didn't receive the same reception as he has lately. Just in the last few days Mills has
accumulated Clemson, Florida State, Cincinnati, Houston, Mississippi State, VCU, Wake Forest,
and Xavier. That list looks eerily similar to the offers that Nate Hinton, a star-guard from Team
Loaded (now at Houston), received at this time last year after his incredible 'blow-up'
throughout July.

The comparisons between the two guards should stop there, since they are quite different as
prospects. Mills has built his foundation as a pure scorer, and there's no way to angle it any
differently, since that's what he continues to provide on a game-to-game basis. Offensively, there
isn't anything out of his realm, given his remarkable ability to generate offense out of thin air.
Mills is more of a combo-guard, but his game is so smooth and he passes so willingly, that the
ball is simply better off in his hands. He is a true scorer, but also consistently makes plays for
others and doesn't have a selfish bone in his body. His fluidity as a 6-foot-3 wiry guard is
exceptional and his athleticism is slowly starting to catch up with his polished skillset. On
defense, Mills showcases a high IQ and strong anticipation instincts when jumping into passing
lanes and forcing turnovers. He has always been an absolute terror for opponents in transition,
and that notion should remain the same.

All that should encapsulate why Mills is such an intriguing prospect, but it'll be interesting to see
how he performs this week, when the lights will be at their brightest. On Wednesday, Mills and
PSB Elite will faceoff against NC Red Storm and Team Felton, at 5:00 PM and 8:15 PM,
respectively. The Red Storm matchup will feature Mills against Dakari Johnson, while the Felton
contest will showcase Mills against numerous scholarship holding guards, but most notably the
forward-duo of Greg Gantt and Silas Mason. If this doesn't excite you for July basketball, then
nothing will, as dozens upon dozens of college coaches will be in the building and the
competition will be phenomenal throughout. Look at our website to find out more details (times,
dates, venues, etc.) so everyone can come watch high-level prospects go head-to-head.
