Phenom Feast of Champions
Team Preview: Piedmont Classical (Greensboro, NC)

Piedmont Classical is coming off their performance at Phenom’s High School Jamboree which saw them go 3-0 on the day. During that event they proved to be one of the most exciting teams in the state of North Carolina. By their third game of the day, the crowd was 5 rows deep standing room only and every coach in the building was lined up around their court. When the day started they had little fan fair, as the day ended, everyone in the building had to get a look.

They have come a long way in the time of the school’s basketball season. Last year, the 2016-17 season was year one of the program. They finished the season 29-12 and ended up going 11-0 in their Central Carolina-East conference.

In year two, they return everyone. This includes conference Player of the Year, 6’5” senior, Travon Mayo. This also includes four players who averaged over 8 points per game. They have a depth of experienced, they are very explosive and they have great length and look to run.

Let’s Take a Look at Their Key Players

6’ 2019 Shakeel Moore
Moore took Phenom’s High School Jamboree by storm. He left with the moniker as North Carolina’s breakout point guard after having picked up interest from the likes of Kansas State, Oklahoma State, East Carolina, Richmond, Charlotte and others. Moore is a compact and explosive lead guard. He is a dogged defender for the full length of the court and he makes the right play with great pace. He is a complete guard and his recruitment is sure to explode soon…Not to mention, when he is on the floor, keep the cameras rolling, he is a high wire act.

Coach Free on Moore: Shakeel is explosive and defends for 94 feet. He plays above the rim and can flat out score the ball. He led the team in steals last season.

6’5” Unsigned Senior Trevon Mayo
Mayo is the conference’s reigning player of the year. He is a strong forward who is able to do multiple things on the floor. He is strong, he is athletic, he defends multiple positions and he rebounds very well. Last season he averaged 15 points (52% FG/39% 3P), 6 boards, 1.7 assists and 1.8 steals. He carries an offer from NC A&T.

Coach Free on Mayo: Trevon is a top notch defender. He was voted the CAASC Player of the Year and 2nd Team All-Guilford County.

5’7” 2018 Brian Free
Free is a long range shooter with deep and confident range. He is able to play interchangeably between the point and shooting guard due to his high basketball IQ and his ability to handle pressure. Free is able to get loose from beyond the arc and makes great decisions in transition. Last season he averaged 10.5 points (75 made 3s), 3.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game.

Coach Free on Free: Brian is a high level shooter, is quick and defends for 94 feet. He led the team in assists and don’t let his size fool you, he is the leader of the team.

6'8" 2020 Evan Joyner

Others to Watch
6’8” 2020 Evan Joyner
Evan is a jack of all trades for this team as he will play all five positions at any given point in the game. He is a high upside prospect and one that colleges need to start watching now. He is a coaches son and has all the attributes of a well recruited prospect.

6’6” 2018 Elijah Joyner
Coach Free on Joyner: Elijah is a long and very athletic lefty who can shoot the 3-ball and plays above the rim.
