Syracuse has landed their point guard for the future on Thursday, as 2017 Howard Washington announced that he would be heading to play with the Orange.
Washington is the third commitment for Syracuse, joining Oshae Brissett and Bourama Sidibe for 2017. Washington though is a 6-3 point guard from Athlete Institute Prep and received an offer just about a week ago and now will be joining his teammate Brissett.
He held several offers including ones from Butler, Boston College, Charlotte, Memphis, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, Villanova, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and Xavier according to 247sports.
Phenom Hoops spoke with Head Coach Chris Cobbina at Athlete Institute Prep about the talent point guard and here is his take on what the Orange will be getting.
“He's a very good point guard who is a terrific leader and vocal,” Cobbina said. “Does a good job getting everyone involved. Extremely dedicated and hard worker who can really play off ball screens and take and make big shots. He's a much better athlete than people give him credit for. Syracuse got a very good player at this point in the process and addressed a need!”
Cobbina also spoke on how he will be able to fit in the scheme at Syracuse.
“I think he will fit well. He's a high IQ player who is willing to do whatever it takes to win. He works hard at his game and his body and it's really showing on the court. I think that would fit in anywhere. He brings them a versatile guard who can make shots and continue to get better.”
