Darius McGhee has been a known name around the Phenom Hoops scouts and now will be a known name at the collegiate level, as the scoring guard from Blue Ridge announced his commitment to Liberty this week.
McGhee is a 5’8 guard that can flat out score and has proven it time and time again. Before he headed to Blue Ridge this past season, McGhee led the state of North Carolina in scoring last season, averaging well over 30 points per game.
This young man knows and is wired to score, something that has to have the attention of Liberty in the coming years. Coming into Blue Ridge, he developed his overall skills even more but the coaching staff didn’t want that killer instinct to go away.
Even though he is a 2018 prospect, Liberty scored big with this scoring guard and it seems that they both parties developed a strong relationship over their time.
“Wonderful coaching staff who I formed a relationship with from the start,” McGhee told Phenom Hoops on why Liberty was the place for him. “Great program and just a wonderful school overall. Thankful that they saw things in me that other schools didn’t and they gave me opportunity to fulfill my dreams.”
McGhee informed his high school coach and then the coaching staff at Liberty on his decision and it was simply a possibility that he couldn’t pass up in the end.
Coming into Liberty right away as a freshman, it seems like the staff wants McGhee to continue what he has been doing at the high school level; that is being wired to score the basketball.
“They want me to come in as a scoring combo guard, great on ball defender, someone who can become a leader, and lead by his work ethic,” he said.
McGhee is the first commitment for the Flames in 2018 but certainly a great piece for the future.
