6’2 ’18 Josh Cottrell has been a basketball fixture his freshman and sophomore year.

Tucked away in the Smokey Mountains of Western North Carolina is a small 1A school called Hayesville High School. 6’2 ’18 Josh Cottrell has been a basketball fixture his freshman and sophomore year. Each time, Josh had been selected to the prestigious NC Top 80 camp for the top players in the state regardless of class. We have always been impressed with Josh on court demeanor and team first approach, but more importantly his winning attitude.

This season as a junior, Josh is having an outstanding year through 12 games. He is averaging 27.8 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 3.3 APG, and 3.1 SPG. He is shooting an impressive 45% from the 3-point line (48-107) and is shooting 85.6% from the free throw line. While these statistics are impressive, it is 4.51 GPA that is so remarkable. Simply put, Josh is the epitome of a high character student athlete that excels both in the classroom and on the basketball court.

Josh has an abundance of attributes, however it is his intangibles that are most difficult to measure. He always gives 100% on both ends of the court and we have always been impressed with his hardnosed and gritty approach to the game. He is a fierce competitor that has an unprecedented work ethic and mental toughness that is not often seen for his age/grade. He recently committed to Western Carolina and follow in his father’s footsteps. One thing is for certain; the Catamounts of Western Carolina is getting a quality player, but even better young man.
