Danny Manning came in to Florida and landed his point guard that will bring him into the newly formed American Athletic Conference (Old Big East). Mitchell Wilbekin a 6’1 PG out of The Rock School announced for Tulsa on Monday.

Wilbekin, who played his summer ball with Florida Elite, liked the feel of the school and the coaches, “I felt like it was the best fit for me and I have a great relationship with the coaching staff. Me and coach Manning have built a strong relationship.  I will have a chance to have a big impact early.” Wilbekin also mentioned his development played a role in the decision as well, “They have two coaches on staff that played in the NBA so I know they’ll develop me.”

It was not lost on Wilbekin the move Tulsa was about to make to the America Athletic Conference, “Playing in the American Athletic Conference was a big part of my choice…It will be a high major conference with lots of talented players and it can only help me.”

Wilbekin is Tulsa’s first commitment in the 2014 class.
