Phenom Hoop Report and Jeff McGinnis of Team Charlotte have combined forces to put on yet another spectacular live period event over the course of the next two days at Proehlific Park in Greensboro.  There is a ton of talent flocking to the 336 for the occasion, but to be completely honest, I’m most looking forward to what’ll be happening on the sidelines on Court One just after 6:00.

The Back Story

Anyone that has spent more than 8 seconds watching a Team Charlotte game knows that Coach Jeff McGinnis is pure electricity, he’s a show within a show every time he coaches and he get’s the absolute most out of just about every kid to put on a clean Under Armor Team CLT jersey.  He has established himself as a mainstay in the grassroots scene after a successful basketball career in his own right at UNC and in the NBA.  Every bucket, foul call, and timeout brings a roller-coaster like feel to anyone watching McGinnis and his Team CLT squad play.  Tonight he will have a whole different animal up against him…

Many of you guys remember Coach Bobby Lutz as the Head Coach at UNC Charlotte, as the Head Assistant at NC State under Mark Gottfried, or from the NBA D League, (now known as the G League, s/o to gatorade for dropping the bag) but Lutz has a new group under his tutelage.  Welcome Team Denver to the scene featuring some of the State’s most exciting perimeter scorers in 6’2 Jackson Gabriel and the John Stockton mini-me 5’10 Bryson Childress.  Lutz coaches with some of the same intensity that McGinnis does and it’s going to be a movie when these two coaching heavy-weights go to battle tonight.

What to Expect

Team Charlotte is the more talented group with the likes of Chico Carter and Donovan Gregory amongst others playing for Coach McGinnis, but don’t expect the boys from Team Denver to back down, Gabriel and Childress both have incredible confidence in their abilities to pull of the upset.  I expect Team Charlotte to win this one by 8-12 points in what will be one of the most intense AAU environments I expect to see all summer.  Fans of basketball NEED to try and make it out to this one… you won’t want to miss it!
