We continue to spotlight players and teams that really shined this past weekend at the Phenom March Madness, as we had a little South Carolina flavor come up to NC and give others a chance to check out the talent from the state.  There were several standouts, but one player that intrigued our scouts once again was 2023 6'2 Horaces Jacques from Upward Stars Select.

Jacques is a familiar name from before with Phenom Hoops, as he recently competed in the South Carolina Top 80 just a few months ago, where this was said about him: 'He's a long, wiry, well-rounded guard prospect with a lethal spot-up presence and the ability to wreak havoc off the catch or bounce. Jacques is an excellent midrange shooter, but even better from beyond the arc, and understands how to regularly find seams within the opposing defense. He's also more than capable of operating as a secondary creator, penetrating off the bounce, and making his presence felt defensively… Coach Crawford on Jacques: 'Horaces is a gamer. He showed the ability to score at all three levels! Scored off catch-and-shoot, pull-ups, and drives to the basket. He showed great ability to defend his position. His biggest struggle was the ability to understand and play with his teammates.' Jacques made a quality impact at camp and will be one to keep an eye on over these next few seasons at Orangeburg-Wilkinson.'

Jacques is coming off a strong high school season at Orangeburg-Wilkerson, where he averaged 10.6ppg, 3.2rpg, 2.0apg, and 1.7spg, as his team finished with a 27-4 overall record. He was one of a few players that stepped up and he looks to be doing the same this summer with Upward. What you have to like about Jacques' game is how he can get downhill, attack the basket, play at different paces, and his ability to score around defenders. But then you can add his ball-handling and ability to run a team, his shiftiness on the court, and his presence on the defensive end, Jacques can bring a lot to the table. The 6'2 junior guard should be one of the leaders all year long for this Upward Stars team and a player to keep tabs on down in South Carolina over the next year or so.
