6’2 guard Dontrell Shuler of Legacy Charter in Greenville, South Carolina has committed to Charleston Southern as part of the 2018 class.
Shuler, originally from Irmo, South Carolina, is one of the elite defenders in the country. This should come as no surprise as his older brother, Devonte, secured 32 steals in only 18 minutes per game as a freshman at Ole Miss last year. Defense runs in the Shuler blood.
This summer, playing for Team Loaded North Carolina on the Adidas Gauntlet, Shuler averaged 8.8 points on 58% shooting from the field and 43.8% from beyond the arc has he helped his team go 8-4 in the regular season and make a run at the Elite 8 of the Gauntlet Finale. He saved his best for last as he averaged 14 points on 63% from the field and 3.5 rebounds per game over his last four outings on the circuit.
Shuler is a hyper athletic, quick twitch guard. He is comfortable on the ball, as a secondary handler, as he is at his best when attacking and touching the paint. He is a capable 3-point shooter when his feet are set. As we mentioned above, he is a Day-1 elite defender. We are talking multiple year All-Defense team at Charleston Southern with the possibility of Defensive Player of the Year. He will make the team better, day one.
Shuler chose Charleston Southern over an offer from South Carolina State. Shuler is the sixth commitment for Charleston Southern in this class joining, Timmy Sellers, Sadarius Bowser, Duncan Lexander, Travis Anderson and Jamir Moore.
