2020 6'1 Chris Hampton is an electric two-way combo guard with the build of a free safety.
The ultimate X-factor on the floor, Hampton is both a high flyer and lock down defender, but truthfully Hampton is just scratching the surface on what his game can ultimately become. At this stage he's still harnessing the lead guard skills but there is no doubt this kid has the skills set and tenacity to run the show.
Hampton excels in the break, he's an explosive finisher at the cup, Hampton is unselfish with the rock he's flashed nice court vision, and passing precision the past few months.
Hampton is an X-factor because he will impact the game in any way imaginable in order to secure a win. If you need him to handle the rock Hampton is comfortable on ball, Hampton will get a bucket if called on, if you need a board Hampton is there, and he wants to check the oppositions top perimeter threat every night. I've seen Hampton personally several times since March and he shows a little more every time out, Hampton looked more comfortable than ever in pick N roll situations at the Triad First 48, he found open teammates within the defensive gaps and really worked to get guys around him involved early.
Currently Hampton has interest from, Hampton University, W. Carolina, UNC- Charlotte, E. Carolina, Liberty, and Winston Salem St.
' I play every game like it's my last game, I try to get all of my teammates involved but it all starts on the defensive end. I love defense I love it more than offense, I want to bring a championship to North West I know we have the star players to do that. I know we can do it we just have to put it in our minds that we got to go.' Hampton told Phenom Hoops.
'We have to keep progressing and do better than we did last year, we have to try not to start off so rough in the beginning of the season again and try to go hard and win conference again. I also want to draw in a lot of colleges and make sure everyone gets looks.'
On the EYBL circuit Hampton is a crucial member of Team CP3 16u, his versatility allows that group a lot of freedom to operate on both ends. Hampton brings the noise for this group whenever a momentum shifting play is needed.
' It's real fun traveling with all my good friends and good basketball players, division one players, we started off kind of iffy but we turned it around in Indianapolis and then qualified for Peach Jam in Atlanta. I wasn't too worried I knew we wouldn't miss out on Peach Jam we just actually had to show up and play together.' Hampton said.
' As far as recruitment and offers I try not to get my head caught in it, because that stuff can have an effect on your game. When I hear people talking me up I just know I have to play hard and meet that potential.'
'I have to work on my consistency shooting and I have to hit the weight room to keep getting stronger, so I can come through the lane and finish my and ones like it's nothing. Right before my senior year I'm going to have a lot of Division one colleges looking at me.'
Hampton isn't the type of a guy you want to bet against so expect him to continue to bring the noise every night.
