Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Justin McKoy
Class: 2019
Committed to: Virginia

Previous season’s stats:

McKoy led the Catamounts in almost every category, scoring 24.6 points per game, 10.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game.  It is his third straight season in which he averaged over 20 points per game during the season.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

“In terms of on-court ability, McKoy is quite intriguing and could fill a variety of different roles at the college level. Though slimmer, he still possesses a nice amount of strength, but now has the necessary quickness to frequently take opponents off the dribble. McKoy has built his foundation as a faceup/stretch forward, but can also do damage on the low block. He truly fits the mold of a three-level scorer, which is likely his best attribute. However, McKoy has done a terrific job of building other areas of his game. His strides as a passer and playmaker have been noticeable, and he emerged as one of the most unselfish guys on Team Loaded. He isn’t going to force the action on offense and displays a great feel for the game. McKoy’s overall patience and IQ make him a significant threat with or without the ball. Multi-tool players are becoming an increasingly popular commodity in today’s basketball, and that’s where McKoy comes into play, especially given his size. Prospects that can generate their own offense and stretch defenses without the ball are very useful nowadays. Add in McKoy’s size, and opponents are going to continue to struggle with his offensive arsenal.” – Player Profile from 2018 Link: http://www.phenomhoopreport.com/player-profile-67-19-justin-mckoy/

“Justin McKoy has enjoyed a tremendous transformation in the past year. He has gotten leaner, stronger, quicker, which in turn has improved his mobility and agility. He has always sported “soft passer friendly” hands, nifty footwork in the paint, but his work ethic has allowed him to elevate his game a notch higher. He has extremely long arms and an equivalent positive attitude on the court. He is constantly talking on defense, giving encouragement and most of all being a great team player and leader.” – John Wall Invitational in 2018

“McKoy has really become the prospect we all thought he could become with a rare combination of size, IQ, and shooting touch that isn’t seen too often.  He’s incredibly skilled offensively all over the court, possessing the ability to knock down contested shots with deep range, and he’s not afraid to try and drive down the lane and dunk on you.  He’s used to being the man on his Panther Creek squad and has adjusted nicely to playing with more talented pieces, picking his spots and remaining a highly efficient option for Team Loaded.” – Phenom Summer Grind in 2018
