Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Davis Guyton
Class: 2019
Committed to: The Citadel

Previous season’s stats:

Guyton averaged 12.9 points per game, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game for Christian Academy this past season

What did he say:

Q: What made you The Citadel the place for you ultimately?

Guyton: From the first time I saw them play, I knew their style of play would fit me perfectly and the opportunity to play Division I basketball with my brother was something I couldn’t pass up.

Q: How did you inform them of your decision and what did they have to say?

Guyton: I spent a lot of time with the staff throughout this past season and continued to stay in contact and I finally came to a decision about two weeks ago when I was on campus for my brother’s recognition and the staff all said they were excited for me to be a part of the team.

Q: What do you or what do they hope you can provide on the court?

Guyton: They know my shooting ability will be an impact to the game but I know I can contribute in many ways and be a great teammate to my new brothers.

Q: What is your focus this summer with the decision behind you?

Guyton: The focus for this summer is preparing myself physically and mentally for the challenge I have waiting for me at The Citadel.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

“Offensively, he has centered his game around an incredibly reliable three-point shot, yet also possesses massive size, making him a very difficult assignment for most opponents. In terms of actual jump shot mechanics, Guyton’s form is excellent, and his overall patience beyond the arc is better than most prospects in the Class of 2019. He has done a nice job of continuously expanding his skillset outside of three-pointers, given his ability to go inside and post-up from time to time. There are so many programs across the country that need to look into Guyton and the terrific pick-and-pop option he provides.” – Player Profile in 2018

“Phenom’s Summer Jam Session 2, took place at Ridge View High School in Columbia, South Carolina. Something was different about the day for Guyton. Perhaps it was the 10-15 coaches who were watching. Perhaps it was the lighting in the gym. However, Guyton erupted.  As we mentioned before, Guyton finished with 26 points in the first game on 4 made 3s. For contextual purposes, these games are 40 minutes, running clock. In the second game, Guyton went for 54. Yes, we said that correctly, fifty-four points. In the 40 minutes, running clock game, he knocked down 11 threes.” – Phenom Summer Jam in 2018

“Davis Guyton did what he usually does best and that is knocking down shots from the 3-point line. Guyton finished with 21 points including five 3-pointers. Guyton is best in a catch and shoot situation, he has a quick release and the ability to score points quickly. More importantly, Guyton scores within the framework of the game and rarely takes ill-advised shots.” – Low County Showcase in 2019
