Phenom Hoop Report has been around North Carolina for quite some time now.  All of our scouts have seen some incredible prospects come and go from the state of NC but Campbell’s Chris Clemons will hold a special place in our hearts.

Coming out of Millbrook high school, we heard it time-and-time again about Clemons.  Whether it was about his size or ability, there seemingly were always doubters about what he could do at the next level.

He took his game from averaging 5.0 as a sophomore at Millbrook to being one of the elite scoring guards in the 2014-15 season, averaging 24.1 points per game. Yet, doubts still remained from college coaches and experts.

During his senior season, the 5-foot-9 Clemons showed off his explosive scoring ability, as well as his 44” vertical. He finished the 29-game season with 34 dunks and scored over 30 points on ten occasions and surpassed 40 points twice that year. In fact, Clemons broke his school’s single-game scoring record twice in his senior year as the only player in school history to ever score 40 or more points.

It still was confusing to see why Clemons didn’t garner more attention and even though we, among others, recognized the talent he possessed when he finished his senior season at Millbrook, no one thought that he would end his career the way he did.  But that is why it makes it even more special for everyone who has witnessed.

Clemons always plays with a chip on his shoulder and he shows no fear in who he plays or where he plays. That is what helped him reach levels that no one could have seen except Clemons.  After four years at Campbell, Clemons finished his storied career in third place on the NCAA Division I all-time scoring list with 3,225 points, finishing it off in the NIT vs. UNCG, scoring 32 points.

Add on top of that, Clemons ended his career fifth on the all-time Division I list for 3-pointers made (444) and also set a Big South Conference record and school single-season record for points (993) and scoring average (30.09).

In easy terms, Clemons has been a record-breaker his entire career and don’t think it will stop now. It has been a pleasure and a storybook ending to Clemons’ career, one that many players can learn from down the road.

But when one remembers watching this young man in his senior year in high school, standing on the sidelines when he threw a pass off the backboard to dunk it vs. Enloe back in 2015, to now finishing in third place on the all-time scoring list, it has been a story that we and everyone else won’t forget.

Clemons has represented himself, Millbrook, Campbell, and the state of North Carolina in a way that we may not see in quite some time.  And with it going down in history, Clemons’ career so far will be one that everyone can remember and cherish.  It will also be a story for future players can take and learn from.

In the end, it has been a special few years watching this young man grow up to where he is today.  It seemed like it flew by but doesn’t it always.  From Phenom Hoop Report though, it has been a pleasure and an honor to watch Clemons’ career on so many levels.  Congrats to everything he has worked hard for and we can’t wait to continue watching him break records and prove all doubters wrong.
