She Got Game
The triad area has an abundant amount of talent on the boy’s side, now let me introduce you to a young lady who has game of her own. Mariah Frazier class of 2021 is a 5’10” sophomore who stars for the NC Lady Gators and Ragsdale High School. She is a dual sport athlete who qualified for the State outdoor long jump event last season, with her longest jump being 17’8”. In the Ragsdale system you may find her running the show at PG or even playing in the high post. In both positions, she is highly effective with strong moves that allow her to get to the basket at a high rate. Frazier made All –Conference while averaging 9 points and 4 rebounds per game. She was a major part of the Ragsdale team that finished with an outstanding record of 22-6, losing in the 2nd round of the playoffs.
Frazier is a long athletic guard, who is at her best when she is able to get out in transition to finish with layups or assists which allows her to easily switch right back over to defense. Frazier’s incredible wingspan and athleticism serves her well on the defensive end of the court where she is a tenacious on-ball defender that is able to guard the 1-4 & even some 5 at times. Over the last few months she has picked up offers from NC A&T, UNCG and the most recent being from Appalachian St. Presbyterian, Charleston Southern, Georgia, William and Mary, Virginia Tech, NC State, Garner-Webb, FIU, HPU and Campbell have all showed different levels of interest.
When speaking to Mariah, she stated her area of improvement were “Getting stronger so I can finish in traffic and working on having more of a consistent shot and becoming more of a leader”.
Be on the lookout for Mariah Frazier and the Ragsdale Tigers this year, who have added a few new players to their team. This combination should make an even bigger impact on the girls’ basketball scene in the triad and state.
