Elijah Roye 6’7 220 2020 Carmel School, Ruther Glen VA
It’s always great to see a 6’7 forward run the floor like a guard and catch passes in stride like a wide receiver then finish both with power and creativity around the rim, Elijah Roye is that guy! He is very athletic and has very good speed getting up and down the floor, really runs the floor hard transitioning back to the defensive end and competes with great energy on both ends. His athleticism and agility serve him well in soccer when he’s not on the basketball court. Elijah has very good footwork around the rim offensively in both post up situations and when facing the rim. With his back to the basket he does a great job sealing his man and presenting himself to the ball. He’s strong and pretty much takes the space he needs with little resistance due to his strength and 220 pound frame. He has great hands and demonstrated that corralling one or two errant passes and also hauling in passes in stride sprinting in transition. He uses a skillful jump hook and basic drop step move to score inside and has a nice touch. Elijah can put the ball on the floor capably and get to the rim on a straight line and has very good finishing ability on non dunk finishes as well as on dunks. He is a powerful dunker with very good bounce. Elijah can stretch defenses as well showing three point range and sound mechanics when he gets his feet set. Certainly demonstrates the potential as a perimeter threat on both ends as he has fairly quick feet and lateral mobility with the ability to contain the dribble in space. His agility is impressive and his motor nonstop! Elijah is strong, mobile and active around the rim. The best part of his defensive versatility is that he excels protecting the post, while also possessing the quickness and determination to cover most wings on the perimeter and lockdown other stretch four types who venture out to the perimeter. Elijah is a dominant rebounder with shot blocking ability. His long arms and sheer strength and mobility allow him to snatch rebounds outside his area. He’s one of the more athletic “bigs” I’ve seen but I hesitate to refer to him as a big given his obvious skill and potential outside the paint. Elijah Roye should be on the recruiting radar of low and mid major division I programs! In addition to his dominant on court exploits he is a straight A student and multi sport star!
Carmel School Head Coach Toby Campbell on Elijah Roye: “Elijah is the total package. He works extremely hard in workouts and in the classroom. Don’t have to ask him if he wants to work out because he will already be in the gym working on the skills he needs to improve. He has a high motor and can step out and hit the three. Runs the floor extremely well. Very excited for him to have the opportunity coming from Montreal, Canada to be a student/athlete at Carmel and compete with the best in VA. Looking forward to his progression”.
