Antwone Blackwell 6’6 165 2020 Hopewell High School (VA)/Team Flight VA AAU

Antwone oozes with energy and athleticism, has great bounce and tremendous raw talent. One of the most promising players I watched at the Zero Gravity Southern SuperCup. He played hard and quick and displayed alot versatility and a great feel. Antwone has tremendous length at 6’6 with a 6’11 wingspan! Thin at the moment, perhaps lean might better articulate his frame as he appeared physical and strong enough to impact the paint but he has big shoulders and should have very little problem filling out his frame long term. Antwone is well coordinated, runs the floor like a deer, good fluidity. He impacts games as a defender and covers a lot of ground. Has the potential to be an elite defender at the high school level because of his combination of quickness and length and his IQ. Antwone blocks or alters alot of shot attempts in the paint, very good help defender. He also proves capable of defending the dribble on the perimeter. Antwone has all the tools to be a game changing defender. He is nimble enough to step out and switch ball screens; he can cover a lot of space and use his mammoth reach to contest shots. Antwone is quick enough to recover to blocks at the rim if beat. His length and quick elevation help to make him an excellent rim protector. He has good instincts and timing both rebounding and blocking shots. Antwone has a lot of versatility in his offensive game as well and looks so smooth and comfortable outside the paint handling the ball and shooting the jumper. He has the solid foundation for a face up game and shoots from midrange with good consistency. Shows good touch out to 15-17 feet. He is light on his feet running the floor, catches and finishes really well in transition. Antwone is nowhere close to reaching his full potential physically and has a chance to be an impact player next season at Hopewell High School. He is extremely mobile and agile, can run the floor and elevate quickly to the rim, he is also a very good finisher around the basket. I am really impressed with his instincts as a scorer and his ability to generate offense. Antwone can score with either hand in the post using good footwork and a soft touch, has a very nice touch and good shooting mechanics from the perimeter and is very comfortable handling the ball. I saw him more than once grab a rebound and competently push the ball in transition. His long strides allows him to cover ground quickly on dribble penetration and he has a good burst on his first step to compliment his length. Antwone has a skill set to have success as a wing and the length and rebounding prowess to impact games in the paint. He is going to be a special player, one Hopewell High School fans can be excited about and one college coaches should have on their “must see” list!
Hopewell High School Boys Basketball Coach Elvin Edmonds on Antwone Blackwell: Antwone is a game changer and has the ability to take over games due to his length and athleticism. He has a great motor which helps to make him a great offensive rebounder. He also scores tough buckets in traffic! Antwone defends and rebounds very well, his upside is tremendous. He is a little raw but still finds ways to produce. Antwone is expected to have a key role for the Blue Devils this season.
