Unsigned senior you need to know
6’8 unsigned senior Caleb Mauldin has enjoyed a stellar career at West Rowan High School in the small town of Mt. Ulla, North Carolina. The power forward/center is averaging 24.5 PPG, 16 RPG, 4.2 APG, and 2.4 BPG and currently is sitting at 1965 career points. He is shooting an impressive 64% from the floor, 75% from the free throw line and 40% from the 3-point line.
Mauldin has been an impact player for West Rowan and was selected to the NCHSAA North Piedmont All Conference team in 2015, 2016, 2017 and again in 2018. He is currently the third All-Time leading scorer in West Rowan and Rowan County behind Scooter Sherrill (NC State) and Donte Minter (Virginia). Recently, he was selected to the 2018 North Carolina/South Carolina All-Star game in Wilmington, North Carolina.
We have watched Mauldin several times during summer travel ball events. We’re talking about a fundamentally sound power forward/center that has the ability to score in the paint or step out and knock down the 3-pointer with efficiency. As previous stated, Mauldin is shooting 64% from the floor and 40% from the 3-point line. Mauldin has passer friendly hands and is a willing passer out of the post, both from the low block and from the elbow. We have been impressed with his court vision for his size/position and makes timely passes. In addition, Mauldin does an excellent job of gaining offensive positon in the paint. Once he receives the ball, he has a few “go to” moves and can either direction, but feels more comfortable going over his left shoulder. We like the fact that if Mauldin doesn’t have a good shot, he will make an outlet pass and work hard to re-establish low post position. More importantly, Mauldin is a high IQ player and has a good feel for the game. Lower tier D1 schools and D2 schools in need of a strong, fundamentally sound power forward with the ability to step out and knock down jumpers should make a trip down to Mt. Ulla and check out this unsigned senior.
